The Stars (a dream)

She stood quietly looking out over the sleeping town, the stars sparkling in the sky overhead. She paused for a moment – there were more stars than usual, and in addition to the usual constellations, there was something more. She cocked her head to the side, trying to make sure her eyes weren’t deceiving her… was that a fleur de lis of stars? There were several!

Then it happened.  The stars started to fall.  More specifically, they were falling on the town square.  She ran. Down the hill and through the streets, panting as she finally rounded a corner and came into sight of the square.  It was alight in a shower of sparkles. She felt no fear. In fact, she felt compelled to enter the square, despite the danger her mind insisted she should feel.

A structure was forming from the falling stars. As they came to earth, the stars were turning into sparkling puzzles pieces, cosmically falling into place all around her. She marveled as walls and pillars shimmered into place. The light grew stronger and stronger all around her.  She squeezed her eyes shut against the brilliance.

Suddenly everything felt different – she opened her eyes cautiously. She was standing in the midst of a grand cathedral. She looked around as citizens went about their prayers and quiet conversations, oblivious to the incredible transformation she witnessed. A priest stood off to the side giving her a knowing smile.  She approached him, her eyes still wide with wonder, and whispered, “Did you see the puzzle pieces?”

“Yes – a few of us are able,” he quietly replied. His eyes sparkled.
