what do you consider the most overrated virtue?
obedience.
i respect laws. i respect authority – my supervisors, my elders, people who know more about something than i do, etc. but i have a problem with blind obedience. even with children – blind obedience teaches us that we do not have power, that others are in control, and that we do not have to think critically.
obedience is possible when there is trust. obedience has its positive side, as does any virtue. but in my experience, it is far more often used as a tool for control, not a strength used in partnership with other virtues.
