and i’m still smiling
this weekend did not end up how i expected it to. in fact, it was far better than i had planned.
saturday, i got to tai chi early and did my rounds jogging and walking. some random lady was sitting on my bench, smoking and talking on her cell phone. i inwardly laughed because here she was, sitting on the second floor of a shopping center with only two functional spaces occupied – a gym and a kung fu school. and she’s smoking. however, she annoyed me because every time i passed her, i had to breathe in her fumes. after several laps, i decided drastic action was needed (because she couldn’t put the phone down or stop yapping long enough for me to ask politely). i pulled out my sword and started warming up. i started my form. within seconds, she was scurrying around to the other side of the courtyard. ahh… the power of raw steel.
i enjoyed my class, as usual. si-jeh praised my form but said she’d like me to get a little more of the ‘effortless effort’ going … i’m still a little theatrical.
after class, i headed to Sears to get sweetie’s watch batteries replaced, then to Target to buy my friend’s little girl a first birthday present. home for a couple of hours to shower, rest, wrap the gift, then out to royal palm beach for the party. as far as one year old parties go, it was cute. i ate junk of course, but not too much. since i was one of the few people there without children, i took it upon myself to go crazy with the camera. i don’t know how many hundreds of pictures i took – i haven’t had the time to download the camera yet.
today, i made breakfast for sweetie & myself then settled in to do some work. i’ll be in miami monday and tuesday for a conference, so i wanted to get a little paperwork in. just when i decided it would be nice to head over to PrideFest, the heavens opened and it rained. of course, it was really just nature’s cue that i should take a nap. which i did willingly, until the rain stopped and off we went. because sweetie is on call, i hopped on my bike & she took the car. we walked around, sat & listened to some music, talked with friends we hadn’t seen in a while. yes, she got paged while we were out – it was inevitable. after she left, i walked around a bit more, ran into a friend from work, and then meandered back to the music.
i watched kids playing in the grass with a beach ball, and some goth/punk teenagers molest one another in broad daylight (ah, youth). then the last act of the day came onstage. i wasn’t paying attention at first, but then i didn’t have a choice. i love music, but i’m also picky and fairly oblivious. neither of those objections had a chance against teri catlin’s performance.
she made me smile. and she made me think i need to pick up my guitar again and learn how to play the damn thing. my one regret is that her cd isn’t on itunes.
and the other good news is that priceline and i finally agreed on the price of a hotel room in miami for tomorrow night so i don’t have to drive up & back down. and they have free wifi. score.
