    random snippets of my weekend

  • comment made by me during tai chi as i ran out of room and was forced into a closet during the form: “didn’t i already come out of one of these already?”
  • ongoing joke/comment made by my instructor almost every time we line up to do the tai chi sword form: “make sure you give yourself enough room so you don’t stab anyone. and watch out for mel – she’s even more dangerous – she stabs herself.” which, is true – i stabbed myself in the head with my sword one day. i bled. it was really quite funny, though the new people usually back up a couple of extra feet when they hear the story. it’s sort of my claim to tai chi fame!
  • my utterance upon putting on my new optics snorkel mask for the first time in the ocean: “I CAN SEE!!!” it was the first time i’ve ever been able to see at the beach. i had a marvelous view of the sand underwater. i think we’ll have a better time during low tide vs. high tide. i did find some small pieces of coral that were pretty.
  • sweetie’s comment upon my return home this morning: “did you bring home any mormon germs?” my coworker & friend was invited to a service where a baby was being blessed this morning at the local LDS church. she facilitated the family’s adoption of the little boy. since i have some familiarity, she asked me to come with her. it’s been over 10 years since i have been to church. it was enlightening. i felt a very strong affirmation of where i am and what i believe, and an even greater appreciation of my journey and all the ways my varied experiences have enriched me.

i am sitting here this evening on the couch in comfy clothes with my sweetie and my puppies, watching television tonight. we were supposed to go out with friends but neither of us felt well. so far today we’ve watched harry potter & the order of the phoenix, contact, and keeping mum. now we’ve switched to the food network. sometimes it amazes me that i can be so content and grateful for some of the simplest pleasures in life. the best thing of the whole weekend? the laughter. always the laughter.
